Finn M.W. Caspersen Beneficial
Mr. Caspersen began his professional career as an associate in New York City with the international law firm of Dewey, Ballantine, Bushby, Palmer & Wood. He joined Beneficial in 1972, and under his stewardship, the Company has grown from $2 billion to nearly $17 billion in assets. Mr. Caspersen has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Better Business Bureau Ethics Award and the Alliance for Action Eagle Award.
He is a frequent spokesman for the consumer financial services industry in both the media and legislative arena. He is the past chairman of the American Financial Services Association, an industry wide organization, and current chairman of AFSA's Government Affairs Committee.
Mr. Caspersen served three years in the U.S. Coast Guard as an ensign-lieutenant. An independent, he is active politically on the state and national level and even serves as moderator of the Shelter Harbor Fire District in Rhode Island. As a New Jersey resident, he has been active in many statewide civic initiatives, such as chairman of the Coalition for Better Transportation and Co-Chairman of Prosperity New Jersey.
Mr. Caspersen is a graduate of The Peddie School, Brown University and the Harvard Law School. He is very active in the field of education, having served in leadership positions in many public and private educational organizations. He is a Trustee Emeritus of Brown University, chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Peddie School and a member of various Harvard University committees.
He has been recognized by honorary degrees and awards from numerous organizations.
An international equestrian sportsman, he is chairman of the U.S. Equestrian Team. He was chairman of the 1993 World Pair Driving Championship, is chairman of the Gladstone Equestrian Association and a lifetime vice president of the Royal Windsor Horse Show. He has been a three-time member of the U.S. Equestrian Four-in-Hand National Championship Team and was the first recipient of the Combined-Driving Horseman of the Year Award.
